With deep sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Tete Moananui Smith “Tegal” on 2 January 2026, aged 71 years.
Tegal was a deeply loved husband to Raelene “Trena”, father to Des and Suzie, papa to Shyanne, Desi and Teira. Brother to Charlie Smith, Estelle Blake, Corrinne Birch (dec), Alfred George Smith (dec). Beloved uncle, brother-in-law and friend to many. Tegal will travel to Kahungunu Marae on Monday, 5 January at 10am, where he will lie in state until the funeral service on Tuesday, 6 January at 11am. Following the service, a private cremation will be held in Gisborne. Thank you all for your love and support.
